“Where should I look to stay current about topics in the HR industry?”
I often get asked the question by colleagues and clients. Today I’m sharing some of my favorite resources with you. If you have others to add, please do so in the comments!
Society for Human Resource Management (SHRM)
The Society for Human Resource Management (SHRM) is the go-to resource for most human resource (HR) professionals. More than 300,000 HR and business professionals in 165 countries maintain memberships with SHRM, making it the largest HR association in the world. As someone connecting with this audience, you can use SHRM tol find information on all HR related topics, local and national events, and customized expert advice. At a minimum, I recommend reviewing the SHRM magazine each month so you can stay current about the topics facing your HR buyers.
HR Dive
When you need the latest information, HR Dive is where you should look first. If it’s trendsetting, newsworthy, or litigation related, business journalists provide expert insights for HR professionals and executives. Find resources on topics such as diversity and inclusion, benefits, compensation, education, and much more on HR Drive.

HR Social Hour Half Hour Podcast
HR pros Jon Thurmond and Wendy Dailey talk to other practitioners about connecting, giving back, and building the HR network. They host a weekly podcast. And then the #HRSocialHour chat on Twitter the 2nd and 4th Sundays of each month at 7 PM Eastern. I’ve known John and Wendy via online networks for several years and can say that if you want real talk about HR life, they are some of the best resources you’ll find.
HR buyers face unique challenges that you must understand if you want to make meaningful connections with future clients. The resources above provide insight into HR pain points and an opportunity to foster relationships in the places they go to find answers to those problems.
